General Strike 100

Commemorative poster for the 100th anniversary of the General Strike (1926–2026). The design features a sepia-toned historical photograph of a large group of people gathered around a wooden structure, with bold geometric shapes in red and black layered over the image. The text “100 GENERAL STRIKE 1926–2026” appears prominently on the right side in black and red. Along the bottom, there are multiple logos of supporting organizations, including museums and heritage groups. The background includes handwritten notes and stylized red zigzag patterns symbolising disruption or movement.

The Working Class Movement Libary (WCML) is part of the General Strike 100 national partnership of museums libraries, archives and history groups, coordinated by the General Federation of Trade Unions.

WCML will be opening a new exhibition to mark the anniversary of the General Strike in May.

The exhibition, The Great Betrayal: One Hundred Years On: the lessons of the 1926 General Strike re-visited, will display some of WCML's extensive collection of materials related to the strike, from first hand sources from the strikers and pamphlets, to BBC news transcripts and photographs. We hope this exhibition continues to provide open access to our materials, a source of free education for all.
