Salford 100 reveals major events programme

● The Wagon Train Tour: Pop-up community events in parks from Saturday 23 May
● Major multimedia art project Salford Everywhere to premiere in October
● Songs of Salford concept record promises new anthem for the city
● Free events taking place for communities in Salford’s eight neighbourhoods

A major update from the cultural programme celebrating Salford’s 100th anniversary as a city
has been announced by Salford City Council, supported using public funding by Arts Council
England.

The city-wide celebration will explore the past, celebrate the present and imagine the future of
Salford through a series of art commissions and community events co-produced by creative
Salford organisations Walk the Plank and From The Other. Each commission has been
designed to ensure world-class culture is accessible to all, with a number of events free to
attend, putting Salford on the map as a cultural hub for the arts.

The Wagon Train: A Pop-Up Festival Inspired by Local Communities

Walk the Plank’s pop-up festival in your neighbourhood, celebrating the heart and soul of Salford. With free, family-friendly entertainment throughout the summer, visitors can expect music, poetry, play space, karaoke, talent competitions and much more, in a programme co-created with Salford’s citizens.

Events will take place whatever the weather! All Wagon Train events are inclusive, all welcome. We encourage attendees to walk or use public transport when planning their journey: https://tfgm.com/plan-a-journey. The events take place on even ground, with no steps, and there is bench-style seating available. There are four steps onto the Wagon. Photographs and film will be taken at the event: please let a member of event staff know if you don’t consent to this or require further information.

Salford Everywhere

A video portrait of Salfordians from across the city, projected as giants moving across its buildings, weaving together people and place. This ambitious public artwork will be created by creative producers From The Other, with award winning artist Matthew Rosier, whose work blends film, sound and community collaboration. together with creative team including Music Direction by AFRODEUTSCHE, Movement Direction by Company Chameleon and videography by Izzy Pie.

Salford Everywhere will culminate in a city gathering at Peel Park in early October.  The finale will see the film projection-mapped onto buildings, forming a monumental living portrait that will light up the city alongside a bespoke live mix created by Salford based BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 3 Unwind presenter, BAFTA nominated Composer and DJ AFRODEUTSCHE, featuring Salford's rich musical heritage remixed and reworked into a contemporary and celebratory finale score.

Songs of Salford

‘Dirty Old Town’ has had its time as Salford’s song; it’s time to find the city’s new anthem...

To mark 100 years of the city, Salford-based creative producers From the Other want to create a new body of music that reflects life in the city in 2026.

From The Other have invited music producer and songwriter, Charlie Deakin-Davies, to undertake a city residency; getting under the skin of the city of today, exploring its people’s history, and working with a range of collaborators to create new songs that celebrate the character of Salford:  Strategy, Salo, The Thirsty Poet, Che3kz, Meduulla and Sam Seth.
