Access information
We strive to provide facilities for visitors with disabilities. It must be appreciated, however, that as a Grade I listed building, physical adaptations to the hall are sometimes impossible to undertake. Nevertheless we are constantly working towards actively improving the facilities available to visitors with disabilities and welcome suggestions as to how these can be improved.
The museum service in Salford currently has an Access Working Group which is actively investigating all access issues and is due to publish an access policy shortly. Many of the recommendations contained in the draft policy have been (or are in the process of being) implemented.
Wheelchair Access
Our car park has three 'disabled' parking bays which have been designed to allow easy and level wheelchair access to the main entrance of the hall. There is a small (4") step into the building at the entrance door and a similar step into the Star Chamber, but generally the ground floor is wheelchair accessible with a little help, which we are willing to provide if necessary.
Regrettably, the first floor (gallery & temporary exhibition gallery) does not currently have wheelchair access.
Visually Impaired Visitors
Large print guide books are available from reception, or if you contact us in advance we can usually provide a member of staff to give a verbal interpretation of the hall in the form of a short audio tour.
Facilities available at present
We have a toilet for visitors with disabilities (incorporating nappy changing facilities, etc) and an assistance alarm.
