While Salford has all eyes on the future, one foot remains squarely in the past in celebration of our fascinating history. With 5 grade 1 listed and 14 grade II* buildings there's a story lurking behind every ancient monument and sparkling new development.
Ordsall Hall has witnessed kings, queens, and possibly even Guy Fawkes over its 600 year history, while Wardley Hall is home to both the Bishop of Salford and an infamous 'screaming skull'! Wardley Hall is also one of the few Northwest buildings mentioned in the Domesday Book.
The thriving local history scene offers you the chance to get involved with regular reminiscence sessions and talks programmes from the city's 10 local history groups and societies, to trace your family tree at the Local History Library or to explore the stalls and displays at the annual Local History Day at Salford Museum and Art Gallery.
Take a walk through the past yourself with one of the self-guided trails around Worsley (birthplace of the Bridgwater Canal), Salford Quays or Chapel Street, or visit evocative Weaste Cemetery final resting place of Sir Charles Hallé, Busby Babe Eddie Colman and local hero Mark Addy.
