Salford Museum & Art Gallery is an intriguing mix of Victorian and 20th century architecture. First opened in 1850 this beautiful building now incorporates The LifeTimes Gallery, The Victorian Gallery, temporary exhibition spaces and the Local History Library, as well as the Lark Hill Tea Rooms for when you need a well earned cup of tea and slice of cake!
The permanent Victorian Gallery includes a range of fine paintings, pottery and sculpture from the period - the impressive marble statues have been specially treated to allow visitors a real hands-on experience.
The LifeTimes Gallery brings Salford's rich history to life with a series of long-running family friendly exhibitions looking at the social and industrial heritage of our city by using audio and video memories from local people, as well as delving into the huge archive at the museum.
Come and discover the sounds of the city from 1950 to today in the new exhibition Quiffs, Riffs and Tiffs
SM&AG's other galleries welcome an ever changing programme of temporary exhibitions including everything from a world renowned shows on tour from the Victoria & Albert Museum to local photography, sculpture and video art displays.
The museum is also home to Lark Hill Place, the finest recreated Victorian street of its kind, with authentic period shops and rooms, a must for adults and children alike!
All this plus monthly family fun days and an extensive programme of crafts, activities, workshops and demonstrations mean Salford Museum is certainly not living in the past!
