Andrew NutterOkoties at the Festival Food FayreSalford Festival Ale 2008

Saturday 4 to Sunday 12 October

Despite having to brave the wind and rain, close to 2000 people tickled their tastebuds at Salford’s Food Festival Fayre on 4 October- the launch of  the Salford Food Festival 2008.

An attempt at the world’s largest Eccles cake baked by Martins Foods in honour of the occasion drew the crowds. Weighing 56.2kg - more than double the previous record - it now waits for confirmation from the Guiness Book of Records.

Other choices on the events menu included cookery demonstrations  by celebrity chefs Andrew Nutter and Brian Mellor, and local producers and businesses, such as Eccles-based Pacifica Cantonese, Salford sausage specialists, Andrew’s Continental and Chat Moss Herbs sold their wares. Specially brewed Salford Festival Ale was also on sale.

And the foody fun continued over the next week with dining offers and exclusive evenings from Stresa, Pacifica Cantonese and The Dining Rooms keeping the punters happy - and full!
