Walks programme 2012
This programme of heritage walks, run by Salford Heritage Services gives an insight into the city's history, brought to life by experienced guides. Step out and discover Salford's towns and villages, landmark buildings people and their stories. You may think you know Salford, but these walks will explore the often unknown, quirky, but always interesting facts.Heritage walks are a great way of getting some exercise, meeting new people and discovering more about the city. The walks are suitable for all ages and are on even ground; however they are not suitable for wheelchair users or pushchairs.So lace up your walking shoes and step out for a fun and fact-filled walk!
- Walks must be booked in advance at Salford Tourist Information Centre on 0161 848 8601.
- Walks are £3.00 for adults (unless otherwise stated) children under 15 £2.00.
- Please wear appropriate shoes or boots and bring an umbrella! All stated distances are approximate.

Bridgewater family walk
Join us for a leisurely family walk along the canal and through Worsley Woods.
1.30-3.30pm Suitable for pushchairs, all ages welcome. Meet at the entrance to the canal on Parrin Lane, Monton. Delivered by the Health Improvement Team and Bridgewater Canal Officer. For more information contact Jill on 07872 808 003.

Feeling batty!
Help the Salford Rangers team to make a bat box for Duke's Drive and join in our exciting night time bat walk. Bat box making 2.00-4.00pm. Meet at the gazebo on Duke's Drive, off Perrin Lane, Monton (beyond the car park). Materials provided. Night time bat walk 8.30-10.00pm. Meet at the entrance to Duke's Drive car park. Ordsall Hall: Faces and Places
A stroll around Ordsall, looking at the famous hall's relationship with the area and community around it, and bringing to life some real characters! The walk will end with a visit to
Ordsall Hall, and a chance to enjoy the new exhibitions and spaces. Meet 1.00pm at Ordsall Hall, Ordsall Lane, Salford M5 3AN. Walk leaders: Naomi Lewis and Hazel Fenton.

Sketching walk, Worsley
Take a line for a walk in Worsley and enjoy a walk with a difference! Join artist Tess Hills and try your hand at sketching during a short walk along the banks of the Bridgewater Canal and around Worsley village, stopping at inspiring points along the way. Suitable for all ability levels from novice to expert. Under 16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. All materials provided. Booking essential. Worsley New Hall archaeology walk
Join archaeologists for an exclusive behind-the-scenes walk around the excavations of the grounds and site of Worsley New Hall, taking in the gardens, bunker and ice house. Meet 2.00pm at Worsley Hall Garden Centre, car park, Leigh Road, Worsley M28 2LJ. Walk leader: Dr Mike Nevell, Centre for Applied Archaeology, University of Salford. Approx one and a half miles, circular, two hours.

Sketching walk, Monton
Take a line for a walk in Monton and enjoy a walk with a difference! Nature scavenger hunt
Join in this family activity, taking a stroll around Duke's Drive searching for wildlife in this lovely green space and finding out more about the habitats and history of the area. Meet 1.00pm at the gazebo on Duke's Drive (beyond the car park) Drop-in activity, no need to book 1.00-3.00pm.

Greengate and central Salford
Discover Greengate, the oldest part of Salford, with its famous church, stocks and first public baths. Find out about vegetarianism, infamous local pubs, the dirt fair and even balloon ascents. Meet 2.00pm outside Sacred Trinity Church, Chapel Street, Salford M3 5DW. Walk Leader: Roy Bullock. Approx one and a half miles, circular.

The Quays camera walk
The Quays is a photographer's dream with a vast array of setups to discover. This special walk combines heritage and photography. Our heritage guides will delve into the history of the area from its development as docks during the industrial revolution to its ultramodern location of MediaCityUK. Bring your camera and get expert advice from a professional photographer. You'll discover the best locations and great set-ups, and learn how to get the best out of your camera, plus hints and tips. This unique walk is perfect for amateur photographers of all abilities and also gives you the chance to take some fantastic images to be entered into our ‘As seen IN Salford' photography competition. Places on this walk are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment, Meet at 1.00pm; meeting point, route and distance to be confirmed upon booking.

Manchester Docks to Salford Quays
Discover more about the history and regeneration of the old docks and the new quays, taking in Trafford Wharf, the dock office, and the brand new developments at MediaCityUK. Walkden - a company town
Delve into the history of the housing, shops, educational and public facilities developed by the Bridgewater Trustees and Lancashire Council in this fascinating stroll around Walkden. Broken Bank to Salford spa
Did you know that Salford was once a Spa town? Join us for a stroll from Peel Park to the Peoples History Museum along a route that picks out some of the lesser known historic buildings and sites of our city. Ordsall Hall and Salford Quays circular
Starting at the recently restored Ordsall Hall, this walk takes in Salford's old and new with the magnificent tudor hall and the ultra-modern Quays.
