Walkden Heritage Trail

A guided walk through a former Coal and Cotton Town...

The Walkden Heritage Trail was set up and implemented by Mike Corless of Worsley Civic Trust and Amenity Society.

It is made up of seven storyboards along a 1.8 mile route from Walkden Town Centre shopping centre, through Parr Fold Park and up to Walkden Congregational Church. Through photographs and 'quick reads' the boards explain how the area prospered through coal mining during the industrial revolution and shows the transformation of working and family life in more recent years.

Walkden Heritage Trail has been funded and supported by a number of local residents, organisations, businesses and Salford City Council. The project was also supported by A&C Sheet Metal Ltd who fabricated the metalwork for the storyboards and helped to install them.

Mike has also raised some of the funding by delivering a series of history talks in Walkden and surrounding areas.
