Salford Triathlon - February 2009 update

Unfortunately, there will be no Salford Triathlon in 2009.

Changes to the ITU’s World Cup and World Championship series come into effect this year, which mean there are more World Championship and fewer World Cup events than previously.

It has not been possible to finalise arrangements with the ITU for the Salford event this year so we are now looking beyond 2009.

Salford City Council leader, Cllr John Merry said: “The triathlon is important to Salford and I hope that we can reach agreement for future prestige events.

“I'm looking at next year already and certainly for 2011 when the BBC moves its sports department into the city.

“The triathlon is a fantastic showcase for the city and I am determined it should remain so.”
