Theatres

The smell of greasepaint, the thrill of curtain up, the roar of the crowds - the magic of the theatre is alive and well in Salford.

Take in a world class production at The Lowry, catch cutting edge drama at Studio Salford and the New Adelphi, or support grass roots theatre at Salford Arts Theatre.

Award-winning, astounding, show-stopping, outstanding; a new superlative will have to be invented as The Lowry has used them all up! Committed to using visual and performing arts to enrich people's lives, The Lowry presents a diverse programme of theatre, opera, musicals, dance, music, comedy and visual art as well as events and activities to expand the horizons of audiences and artists alike. Admission to the building and galleries is free.

Get stage struck at Salford's very own community 112 seat auditorium - Salford Arts Theatre. This innovative venue was originally built for The Salford Players a local group who gave opportunity to aspiring actors which included Sir Ben Kingsley, Robert Powell, Albert Finney and Christopher Eccleston.

Studio Salford, a shining example of creativity flourishing in Chapel Street, is an umbrella organisation based at the fabulous King's Arms Pub on Bloom Street which showcases several in-house independent theatre companies. Nearby, The New Oxford, an award winning real ale pub, hosts popular acoustic and open mic nights whilst the Sacred Trinity church hosts gigs, exhibitions and events as well as congregations and art groups.

A 350 capacity theatre forms part of the New Adelphi, a landmark building for arts and culture on the University of Salford's campus. This is in addition to their Robert Powell Theatre and Peel Hall, all of which present a wide range of performances.

With such a diverse programme of theatrical events going on across the city, there's sure to be something to suit all tastes. So check out what's on offer in Salford, then sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
