The Salford BG Triathlon World Cup

The award winning Salford BG Triathlon is the only ITU World Cup race in the UK and confirms Salford's place as the home of triathlon in this country.

Salford BG Triathlon World Cup 2007 was a great success with over 15,000 spectators witnessing 420 age group competitors and 135 elite athletes from 33 countries take part in this spectacular event.

Spaniard Javier Gomez and Vanessa Fernandes of Portugal won the sought after World Cup title in 2007. Take a look at our past winners section to see who else has won the title.

The first triathlon to be run in Salford was in the year 2000. The following year was the British Championships - a race held as the test event for the Commonwealth Games competition the following year. Since the Games there have been 5 ITU World Cups in successive years attracting the cream of international triathletes to the city.

Triathlon is a dynamic sport - one of the fastest growing in the country. It is the ultimate physical challenge combining  the demands of swimming, cycling and running - all in a non-stop race against the clock. Are you up for the challenge?

"Great event, really well organised and wow what a great location for it too"

Colin Macgregor, Leeds
