The Quays

The Quays is Greater Manchester's unique waterfront destination, situated just 15 minutes by tram from Manchester city centre. It is Britain's hottest short-break destination and packs everything you can do in a big city into one spectacular square mile. Shopping, sport, art, drama, history and truly world-class architecture - you name it and you'll find it at The Quays.

The Quays Open Day
Saturday 18 February, from 10.00am

For one day only, all the organisations on The Quays open their doors for behind-the-scenes activities and special events for the whole family. Experience a new major exhibition about children's wartime stories at IWM North, join us to celebrate the BBC Children's Big Birthday Bash, get up close to the Chinese State Circus at The Lowry, take a powerboat ride around The Quays courtesy of The Watersports Centre, have a guided tour of Unlocking Salford Quays heritage sculpture trail, meet the Tudors at Ordsall Hall, play interactive games at The University of Salford and Walk with a Dinosaur at The Lowry Outlet Mall.

A special day at The Quays that you won't want to miss.

Culture

Live theatre, the best of cinema and one of the country's finest  museums: The Quays offers a fantastic choice of things to do and see. Imperial War Museum North and The Lowry are vibrant and exciting examples of contemporary architecture, the contents as stunning as the setting and with something to appeal to the whole family, while for five-star film entertainment the Vue cinema can't be beaten.

Shopping

Whether you're a shopaholic or just someone who likes a bargain, the opening of The Lowry Outlet Mall has made The Quays a mecca for the discerning shopper with big-name brand shops and stores offering discount prices - up to 70 per cent lower than the high street - all year round.

Sport

There's no better place to find top sport action than The Quays. Home to two of the most renowned clubs in British sport - Manchester United and Lancashire County Cricket Club, The Quays is the area to head for when wanting the best in football and cricket. Both have official shops too for you to pick up some official merchandise or souvenirs of your visit to the Northwest's sporting mecca.
