As Ordsall Hall prepared to close ahead of its two-year transformation, a special lullaby was written and performed by Ordsall Acapella Singers to help put the 700 year-old mansion to bed. You can listen below to the lullaby being performed at the hall on Tuesday 17 February and the lyrics are detailed below.

Song words
A Lullaby for Ordsall Hall
Chorus:
Soft my sweet one do not weep
Drifting into gentle sleep
Gazing
up at black and white
Dancing glints of dusty light
Home to our history
my dear
And promise of a newer year
Let me sing as memory calls
Of lives once lived, the loved, the lost
Of
mysteries hidden in my walls
Of foundations left in trust
<Repeat chorus>
I filled the ceiling with my laughter
Its peals down generations
fall
Music dancing in the rafters
When I made merry in the Hall
<Repeat chorus>
I, Margaret, have lost my brother
Shunning husband, wedding ring
I
don’t want to love another
I shall dance alone and sing
<Repeat chorus>
A secret passage to the waters
From the room with stars above
Leads
away royal supporters
To shelter with another god
<Repeat chorus>
Can you hear the young girl smiling
At the echoes where she’s stood
From
wooden floor to wooden ceiling
Sleeping, creaking, living wood
<Repeat chorus>
Gentle footstep on the stair
Little motes float in the light
Soft
and eerie swish of air
Smell of wood and roses bright
<Repeat chorus>
