David Nolan
The Salford Music Map has been created and curated by author and television producer David Nolan. He is known for finding out the truth behind some of rock music's most enduring myths. He tracked down the audience for the famous 1976 gig by the Sex Pistols at Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall for his book I Swear I Was There (Milo/IMP Books 2001/2006) and discovered the reasons for the secrecy surrounding the family history of Bernard Sumner for his biography of the New Order frontman, Confusion (IMP Books 2006). David has also co-written a biography of Blur's Damon Albarn, written for the Virgin Book of British Hit Singles and worked in newspapers, magazines and radio.
He has written and produced more than 100 television documentaries – including programmes about Echo and the Bunnymen, the Sex Pistols and The Smiths and has received three Royal Television Society awards for his programme making.
Alongside his work as an author, David also lectures in documentary directing and scriptwriting at Salford University and trains the programme makers of the future for the BBC and ITV. There is more information about David's work at www.mediaexpertise.net
