Local boy sings at Salford’s Proms

Salford’s very own opera star Jon Christos will be among the top attractions at the BBC Proms in the Park in Buile Hill Park.

Jon, who was educated in Manchester at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music, quickly established a reputation as a highly promising young performer.

His talent and dedication brought him to wider attention and he went on to appear in many major operatic roles across the UK and Europe.

Jon’s debut album, “Northern Light”, won him acclaim around the world and his eagerly awaited follow-up, “Artist”, will be released in 2010.

Other highlights of his career include being the first artist to perform at the new Wembley Stadium while he also sang for United Nations delegates at the organisation’s headquarters in New York.

In addition to his singing Jon is a highly regarded producer and vocal coach and also presents a Sunday afternoon show on BBC Radio Lancashire.

“To be performing in my home city at its very own Proms is a huge thrill for me,” said Jon.

“I’ve been lucky enough to perform at lots of wonderful venues in the last few years but this is going to be extra special.”
