Where else but Salford would you find an art gallery, a recording studio, club venue, art academy, publisher and 50 resident artists (including the band of the moment, The Ting Tings) and creative companies all under one roof? With regular club nights, special events and studio open days Islington Mill is a thriving example of Salford's cutting-edge creativity in action.
Salford's only new music festival, Sounds from the Other City makes a yearly appearance at the mill every May Day bank holiday Sunday. Having presented Marina and The Diamonds, the Ting Tings, Cherry Ghost, Dutch Uncles and many more the festival is a real hotbed for new emerging talent. This year the University of Salford's Peel Hall played host to a stage curated by promoters Hey! Manchester, while audiences took in shows at Islington Mill, St Philip's Church and The Rover's Return to name a few.
Check out the Say Something Series every Thursday which includes talks, performance lectures and exhibition openings by a range of local, national and international artisits, or why hot hone your artistic skills at a life drawing class, every Wednesday 7-9pm?
If you're just curious and fancy a browse, the mill is open to the public every Thursday and Friday 12 noon - midnight so go and enjoy this great space or just sit and relax in the garden with a cup of tea and cake and watch the world go by.
