Sounds From The Other City
The new music festival takes over Chapel Street and unites the cream of the local scene, with the finest musicians and club nights.
Looping the Loop
Come and celebrate the start of London 2012 Games Time in the Northwest. Take an Olympic inspired journey and Loop the loop around The Quays from Old Trafford to MediaCityUK and experience arts, sport, film and unmissable live entertainment with a breathtaking performance finale on the water.
Two Cities Boat Race
The University of Manchester and University of Salford will go head-to-head in the 41st annual Two Cities Boat Race. A series of nail biting races will begin at Salford Watersports Centre and finish at the Lowry Bridge, Salford Quays.
Queen's Diamond Jubilee
Celebrate the Jubilee with your local community! Marking 60 years of The Queen's reign, the Diamond Jubilee celebrations will centre around an extended weekend on 2, 3, 4 and 5 June.
The Queen came to the throne on 6 February 1952 and her coronation took place on 2 June 1953. She celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25 years) in 1977 and her Golden Jubilee (50 years) in 2002.
Manchester to Liverpool Bike Ride
Now in its eighth year, this ride starts at Salford Quays, leaving Manchester via Old Trafford and Stretford, where it picks up the Trans-Pennine Trail.
This mostly traffic-free route is ideal for cycling and takes you along part of the Manchester Ship Canal towards Liverpool and the Mersey, which you'll reach by travelling down the famous Penny Lane.
Great Manchester Cycle
The multi-distance event will be the first mass participation urban bike ride taking place on completely closed roads in an otherwise bustling city centre. The urban terrain provides access to roads normally strictly off limits to cyclists, giving you a new perspective on the iconic buildings and landscapes of Greater Manchester.
Ordsall Hall Birthday Party
Celebrate the 500th birthday of the Great Hall at Ordsall Hall with games, competitions, raffles and prizes! Bring your own treats to eat as we have a mass birthday tea in honour of the Great Hall.
Secret Gardens
Celebrate the rich creative talent in Salford and Trafford with a range of unique events taking place across the both areas. The festival will showcase a diverse range of local undiscovered talent and we want you to get involved and join the discovery. The festival will culminate with a special showcase event at MediaCityUK on the 22 and 23 June, featuring a premiere of all the films and an exhibition of photographs from the Secret Gardens Festival. There'll also be artists and groups performances throughout both days and activities and events to enjoy.
Olympic Torch Relay
Don't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to see the Olympic Torch as it makes its way through the city en route to the 2012 Games in London.
Great Manchester Swim
The course features a unique 'Dock to Dock' lay-out, which starts in Dock 9 near The Lowry and MediaCityUK, traverses Mariners Canal and finishes in Dock 8 beside Salford Watersports Centre. Spectators will be able to walk along the dockside following swimmers around the one mile course.
Ordsall Hall Garden Party
A great family event with a craft fair, activities, music from a brass band, birds of prey, food and drink available and lots of entertainment for all the family. Entrance to grounds and hall is free of charge.
Salford Food & Drink Festival
There's a whole host of food related events going on over the course of the festival. Take part in one of our fantastic ale trails and learn the fascinating history behind some of our local drinking establishments. Or why not take advantage of one of our special Food and Drink Festival dining offers and visit some of our city's best restaurants. Whatever your tastes, there will be plenty going on across the city to whet your appetite!
Heritage Open Days
Buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors, ranging from castles to factories, town halls to tithe barns, parish churches to Buddhist temples. It is a once-a-year chance to discover hidden architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities which bring to life local history and culture.
Shine
City of Salford 10k and 5k run
