Coming up soon on Sunday 30 April is Salford's leading one-day celebration of culture, Sounds from the Other City. This takes over a range of venues and spaces along Chapel Street including Islington Mill to showcase new and emerging talent. Also at the mill is the fabulous Fat Out Festival with three days of music across three main stages over the Easter weekend. As part of Islington Mill's fundraising effort the mill is giving everyone the chance to get their hands on some original print-based artwork through their mystery tubes project, a more accessible part of their Temporary Custodians campaign.

In May, endangered species from land and sea gather to inhabit the metropolis of MediaCityUK. Featuring four large 3D illuminated sculptures, this commission by Sober Industries forms part of Quays Culture's annual free summer showcase of spectacular art. Build a unique relationship with someone in India with DUET from Quays Culture which anonymously connects people in the UK and India to answer a daily question via an app to learn about each other.

Would you believe that an ancient Chinese tradition is now the fastest growing water activity in Britain today as well as the most fun? Daring paddlers take part in the annual Chinese Dragon Boat race in May at Salford Quays with thousands of spectators cheering on the decorated boats.

Salford will be turning purple as the first ever worldwide international conference devoted to Prince comes to the city, featuring an appearance by a member of his original band. Buildings across the city will be lit up in the late icon's signature colour as the University of Salford hosts Purple Reign: An Interdisciplinary Conference on the Life and Legacy of Prince in May.

The next Chamber Music Monday sessions with musicians from the BBC Philharmonic orchestra at Peel Hall are on 27 March and 24 April with The Red Brick sessions on Thursday 29 April.
