Zap Cat Racing

A first for Salford, we are proud and excited to welcome Zap Cat racing to The Quays.

Zap Cat Racing is the only offshore powerboat class that has regularly raced in confined city centre locations throughout the UK over the last 9 seasons, mainly due to the size and agility of these lightweight catamarans and of course the skills of their crews, in particular their pilots. The drivers are called pilots because Zapcats at full tilt 'fly' on a cushion of air trapped underneath!

As part of the 10th Anniversary series, this year sees the revival of the City Championships, a title last contested as a one day event in 2005 at London's Docklands. The 2010 event will be held at four cities over eight days in England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Salford Quays will host the last two rounds of the City Championship as well as provide the perfect venue for this brand of exciting, action packed, motor racing thrills in an urban environment, highly competitive, easily accessible and with great spectator appeal.

6 - 8 boats will compete in 5 or more heats each to determine qualification for the round divisional finals. 20+ teams are expected to compete, with up to 16 heats and two finals each day. An action packed free to view weekend!

Watch the skilful and dare devil drivers reach speeds of up to 50mph in what is sure to be a white knuckle ride from start to finish.

There will also be a raft of landside activities to keep you entertained throughout the day.
